Rimowa was founded by Richard Morszeck in Cologne, Germany, and for decades it was the gold standard of serious travel luggage — built tough, repairable, and sold through specialty retailers who knew the product inside and out.

Then in 2016, Dieter Morszeck — Richard's grandson and the man who had grown Rimowa into a global brand — sold the company to LVMH, the Louis Vuitton group, for €640 million.

LVMH made a decision that luxury brands often make: they pulled Rimowa out of independent specialty retailers like Lieber's Luggage. No more selling through the local experts who had built the brand's reputation on the ground. Rimowa would now sell exclusively through their own brand stores and select luxury channels.
